For the first time in 25 years, we have 3 companies fighting the battle of search, namely, OpenAI, Google, and Perplexity. 

The Big Day for Search is Monday

OpenAI is to reportedly announce a service that will serve as a search engine on Monday. However, according to Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the product cannot be limited to being a search engine, and that it will almost feel logical. 

Sam Altman says that it will not be GPT-5 and that it will be a separate important update feeling like “magic”.

What’s interesting and maybe meaningful is that the announcement is to be made one day prior to the Google I/O developer event and they are expected to focus on the search giant’s Gemini and Gemma GenAI offerings. 

Perplexity, which coined the term Answer Engine, is also another major competitor in the search engine field. As a billion-dollar company already, Perplexity uses GPT-4 and other LLMs to create factual and concise paragraph answers for any query you can imagine.
